Kim also acted as showrunner during the early production phase of Angry Birds Toons: Season Two, a 2D animated TV series based on the globally popular mobile game Angry Birds.
He began his career in animation in the 1980s, learning character and effects animation under Disney veteran Don Bluth at Sullivan Bluth Studios in Ireland. There, he contributed to feature films such as All Dogs Go to Heaven (1988), Rock-A-Doodle (1989), and Thumbelina (1990).
In the 1990s, Kim worked as an animator for A. Film on Amazon Jack, Help! I’m a Fish, and other projects. After a brief stint in comic books and illustration, he returned to animation as a storyboard artist on numerous feature films.
Kim was instrumental in establishing The Animation Workshop (TAW), the country’s leading international animation school.
Kim Hagen Jensen, based in Copenhagen, Denmark, conceptualized, co-wrote, and directed DREAMBUILDERS (2020), a CICFF award-winning, Oscar eligible, feature film based on his original concept. Released in over 30 countries, it became the 14th highest-grossing Danish film from 2000 to 2022.
Kim has also written, directed, and art-directed the cinematic trailer series for the game MERGE GARDENS—a collection of CG-animated short films that bring the game’s world to life. His work has expanded the story-driven Merge Gardens universe, with the series gaining a strong following on YouTube and going viral on TikTok with over 30 million views.
In 2021, Kim directed the 2D Christmas short Little Frog (Lille Frø), which was awarded Best Nordic Short Film at the 2022 Buster Film Festival.
